1. Florence, AZ

Situated 60 miles southeast of Phoenix and 70 miles northeast of Tucson, Florence, Arizona is one of the United State’s most well known and respected historical districts. Florence is home to the Pinal County Historical Society and Museum, Aero Modeler Park, McFarland State Park, the Charles Whitlow Rodeo Grounds, a quaint historical downtown, and the final resting place of Charles D. Poston. The beautiful Gila river splits the city clear down the middle, making Florence even more scenic and an excellent destination for vacationers. Florence is also known as a longtime center for the visual arts.

2. Sahuarita, AZ

With its unheard of population growth, Sahuarita is one of central Arizona’s strangest phenomenons. Since 1990, the tiny town of approximately 1,600 people grew in population about sixteen times by 2010. Today, Sahuarita has around 27,000 citizens. In 2001, the city created its very own Sahuarita Lake, an artificial body of water of about 440,000 square feet, which might have contributed significantly to the town’s growth. The town puts a very strong focus on its public EDUCATIONsystem, which employs a staff of close to 4,000 to serve the nearly 70,000 school age children who live within the city limits. Gilbert’s diligence surely contributes to its high graduation rates of over 92%.

6. Maricopa, AZ

One of the largest Pinal county communities to make our list, Maricopa has a small town feel with a big city heart. Within commuting distance of downtown Phoenix by either car or Amtrak, the city focuses on cultivating businesses and economic growth. Maricopa is currently home to over 700 LOCAL BUSINESSES. Maricopa is in no short supply of Museums, restaurants, bars, and attractions for both children and adults.
