2015 Census: Maricopa catching up to Casa Grande

MaricopaPinal’s 2nd largest city may soon nab top spot

Once deemed a “dead end” for young homeowners following the economic collapse, Maricopa has risen from the ashes with a population growth rate that doubles Casa Grande’s.

According to the state Office of Employment and Population Statistics, Maricopa’s population grew by 3.6 percent between July 2014 and July 2015. Casa Grande’s population grew by about 1.8 percent.

In total population, Casa Grande still has over 3,000 more residents than Maricopa.

Mayor Christian Price said it is feasible for Maricopa to become Pinal County’s biggest city within the next decade. It is a relatively young city, having been incorporated in 2003, but Price said Maricopa’s freshness is appealing to new residents.
