ADOT to install electronic variable speed limit signs on Pinal stretch of I-10

The Arizona Department of Transportation is designing a system that will change the speed limit in certain areas of road not only during dust storms but in high-traffic times or just when it seems necessary for drivers to slow down.

“We have all this technology, we’re excited about it and we are confident that the groundbreaking difference will help drivers make it to their destinations safely,” said ADOT spokesman Tom Herrmann.

One of the first installations of this system will be on I-10 between milepost 209 near Eloy and milepost 219 near Picacho Peak.
