Arizona Cardinals and Arizona Interscholastic Association Donate 500 Stadium Lights to Florence High School

FlorenceOn April 21, Florence High School received a delivery of 500 stadium lights from the Arizona Cardinals and Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA). These lights were donated to FHS after the Cardinals and the AIA heard the story of Bill and Stephen McKane.

In 2013, Head Football Coach at Florence High School, Steve McKane, Bill’s son, died suddenly and tragically from a heart attack the week of homecoming, leaving behind his football team, but more importantly his wife and 3 children. The team, devastated, rallied around their coach’s father to win the game in dramatic fashion. A story was done by the Cronkite School and it can be found here. There was a follow up this year with Steve’s Widow, Kami McKane, that can be found here.

The lights received from the Cardinals will allow Florence High School to replace all of their stadium lights on the Football and Baseball fields as well as provide lights for the upcoming Stephen R. McKane Practice Complex, which is expected to be completed in 2016. The Army National Guard will be building the complex during their May 31st training in Florence.

Dr. Fuller Quote: “The donation of 500 lights by the Arizona Cardinals and Arizona Interscholastic Association is humbling to our district. We are so appreciative of this donation, which will support the memory of our coach, Steve McKane, and help provide opportunities for a future generation of Florence Gopher Athletes.”
