CAC president says state budget cuts ‘devastating’

Already facing a 50 percent cut meaning up to $1.5 million less in state funding, Central Arizona College now may lose much more.
The college could receive nothing at all from the state.
“It’s shocking! Absolutely shocking!” CAC President Doris Helmich said. “It’s a devastating blow. The 50 percent cut was bad enough but 100 percent is devastating.”
The latest on potential cuts comes as Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and Republicans in the state Legislature have reached a budget agreement that calls for $104 million in cuts to the three public universities along with the elimination of funding for the state’s three largest community college systems in Pinal, Maricopa and Pima counties.
