Casa Grande council balks at condemnation, but sewer project moves forward

The Casa Grande City Council’s message Monday night was loud and clear: We don’t want to take people’s property by force.

The council balked at the idea of condemning property for the east-side sewer project. Condemnation would occur only if city staff and the land owners could not reach an agreement on using the land for the sewer project.

Terrence McKeon, assistant public works director, said the city would use condemnation as a last resort and noted that to date city staff has been working diligently with property owners to grant the city rights of way to place the sewer line in.
