Casa Grande council gives nod to rec center contractor

It’s been more than a decade in the making, but the community recreation center will finally come to fruition.

The Casa Grande City Council on Monday approved moving forward with the recreation center, voting 7-0 to hire Haydon Building Corporation to finish designing and then build the recreation center.

Prior to the unanimous vote, the council heard a recap of the long history of the center, which was approved by voters via a bond election in 2006. Several other projects, including the public safety headquarters, also were approved at the time. However, while those projects moved forward in a timely manner, the recreation center was put on hold when the economy turned bad.
