Casa Grande council OKs funds for public works projects

The Casa Grande City Council approved a series of public works projects on Monday that impact the city’s landfill and wastewater facility.

One of those items included the purchase of up to 43,000 tons of top soil that is to be layered across the Casa Grande landfill. State and federal laws reportedly mandate landfills to be buried by at least 6 inches of top soil at the end of each operating day.

Public Works Director Kevin Louis said the landfill needs to have soil containing some moisture so that it won’t blow away once layered. The landfill has a limited supply of on-site soil and must import from other sources.
