Casa Grande panel gives green light to rec center

Recreation options are about to get more plentiful, as planning commissioners gave the final approval for the community recreation center.

The Casa Grande Planning and Zoning Commission gave the green light for the long-anticipated project Thursday, but the approval didn’t come without some questions regarding the safety and traffic around the project, which will be on Peart Road.

The building will be more than 55,000 square feet and will be 40 feet high, said James Gagliardi, city planner. A parking lot featuring 262 spaces will be located toward the rear of the building, which will sit closer to the street than might be expected. Gagliardi said one reason was so that neighbors in nearby subdivisions wouldn’t have to look at the parking lot.
