Casa Grande schools received misallocated funds

A state audit recently found discrepancies with the allocation of federal funds to local schools, including several districts in Pinal County.

According to the Arizona Department of Education, the issue was brought to its attention in December 2014, prior to current Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas taking office. Douglas’ staff told local districts in April of this year that there were possible issues with the entitlements.

Reports indicate that the Casa Grande Elementary School District fell short by more than $80,000 during fiscal years 2014-17. Superintendent JoEtta Gonzales said for fiscal year 2018, the district is receiving $294,536.31 less in Title I funds than it did the previous year.
