City of Maricopa Hires Interim City Manager

[NEWS RELEASE] Maricopa City Council approved a contract to hire Trisha Sorensen as the Interim City Manager. Ms. Sorensen is set to start on December 7 to transition with City Manager Gregory Rose, whose last day will be December 19. City Manager Rose accepted the city manager position with University City, Missouri last month.

Ms. Sorensen is a familiar face in Maricopa. She served as the interim city manager from July 2013 to February 2014. “I came to love the City and the organization and would like nothing better than to help once again with the transition to a new city manager,” explained Ms. Sorensen. “I know the City and the organization and believe that will be a tremendous benefit in smoothly stepping into serve as the interim manager.”

Prior to her previous stint with the City of Maricopa Ms. Sorensen worked for the City of Mesa for more than 12 years serving in various executive, management and administrative level positions. She has served her entire career in the public sector including time with the Governor’s Office, state agencies, cities and one county.

“We feel that Ms. Sorensen’s prior experience with the City of Maricopa makes her well positioned to hit the ground running,” said Mayor Christian Price. “Trisha gives the City stable and experienced leadership as we initiate a nationwide search for a permanent city manager.”

The City will engage an executive search firm to assist in the recruitment of a permanent city manager. The process is expected to take approximately six months.
