inland portCity’s preferred highway route adjusted for Inland Port

The City of Coolidge has pinned plenty of hope for its economic development on the potential creation of an inland port in the southern part of its city limits, now pushing for a planning change that would accommodate the wishes of the land owners.

The city has released for public review a major amendment to the general plan passed by voters in 2014 which would slightly alter the city’s route preference for a north-south highway that, if built, would connect the east valley with Interstate 10 near Picacho. The new preference is intended to reflect the wishes of Pinal Land Holdings, the land development firm with significant ownership in southern Coolidge.

In pursuant with the amendment process, this change is now under a 60-day public review. On October 5, the Coolidge Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing to receive input on the amendment. Should the amendment be approved by the commission, the Coolidge City Council will hold its own public hearing on November 14, with a vote to approve the amendment taking place November 28.
