Commissioner Babeu? Former Pinal sheriff named as CBP candidate

After two unsuccessful runs for Congress in a four-year period, the political prospects of former Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu may be looking up.

According to Arizona Public Media, Babeu is among three candidates interviewed to lead U.S. Customs and Border Protection, an agency under the Department of Homeland Security that includes Border Patrol agents and customs inspectors. The report cited three independent but unnamed sources as having confirmed his candidacy to serve in President Donald Trump’s administration.

Babeu has been a staunch Trump supporter and has stood behind the president’s approach to immigration.
