Controversial Casa Grande group home back on P&Z agenda

Controversial Casa Grande group home back on P&Z agenda

by Heather Smathers | Casa Grande Dispatch

A Casa Grande group home for children that was the source of controversy during last month’s planning and zoning meeting is back for another hearing.

Safeway House, a residential group home in Ironwood Commons, is asking for an amendment to the planned area development so the home can accept more children. Safeway House is a residential facility that currently is allowed to house six clients ages 7 to 16. Operator Tiffany Battle previously said none of the children is younger than 12.

Battle was before the Planning and Zoning Commission last month; however, the six commissioners split on forwarding a recommendation to the City Council. Commissioner Robert Miller was absent.
