With a start date of April 1, it might seem easy to think residents will be fooled again, but this time it’s for real: Coolidge Avenue is finally going to undergo comprehensive renovations.

Beginning next Tuesday, the Arizona Department of Transportation and Combs Construction will begin the process of reconstructing the road with new pavement, sidewalks, curbs, gutters and lighting, among other changes. In some places, the sidewalks might extend from five feet to as much as nine feet with corners and a mid-block ramp bring the street into compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act, while also helping to slow traffic so safer levels. Construction, which will take place between Arizona Boulevard and First Street, is expected to last until around the end of July.
