Coolidge council passes budget

CoolidgeAfter a cycle in 2013 where heated arguments over budgets and taxes set the tone for many study sessions and meetings, this year has been much more agreeable as the Coolidge City Council passed the budget for the upcoming fiscal year with almost no comments on June 23.

A large reason for the consensus is the lack of a real tax issue. Higher than expected revenue and increasing property value assessments meant that the finance department saw no need for any increase in the city’s property tax levy. In fact, because of the increased property values, the anticipated tax rate will decline from 1.8584 to 1.8494 should council vote for the recommended option of collecting the same amount of money via the tax.
