Councilmember Peggy Chapados Elected Vice Mayor

[NEWS RELEASE] Elected unanimously to the position by her fellow Councilmembers, Peggy Chapados now takes on the role of Vice Mayor. She takes over the position from Councilmember Marvin Brown who has served as Vice Mayor for the last three years, and nominated Chapados for the position. The Vice Mayor performs the duties of Mayor in his absence.

“I am honored to be selected by my peers to serve as Vice Mayor,” said Chapados. “As the first female to hold this position, I look forward to continued service on Council. I am passionate about our community and excited to serve in this new leadership role. I remain committed to public safety, economic development, improving transportation corridors, exploring options for housing diversity, increasing transit services, resources for seniors and expanding awareness and appreciation of the arts in Maricopa.”

Vice Mayor Chapados has served as a Councilmember since November 2012. She has been a resident of Maricopa since May 2006, currently residing in The Villages with Don, her husband of over 40 years.

Vice Mayor Chapados’ leadership roles include past and present service as both director and officer on the boards for The Villages at Rancho El Dorado HOA, Maricopa Seniors, and the Maricopa Police Foundation.

She is also very active on City boards, committees, and commissions, currently serving as a Council Liaison to the Age-Friendly, Cultural Affairs, and new Arts Committees, as well as the Planning & Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment. Vice Mayor Chapados served on the Housing Needs Assessment Task Force and currently sits on the Housing Plan Committee as well as the Subdivision Ordinance Update Steering Committee. She is a sustaining Platinum Maricopa Advocate Program member and serves on the Budget, Finance & Operations Council Sub-Committee.

She strongly advocates expanding and sharing knowledge to achieve the best results possible. Embracing the words of Sir Francis Bacon and J.K. Rowling, two of her favorite mottos are “Knowledge is power” and “It is not our abilities that show who we truly are, it is our choices.”
