County considers private motocross tracks near Florence

A proposal for private motorcycle tracks northeast of downtown Florence — on 12 acres that are now the site of an illegal dump — will go before the Pinal County Board of Supervisors March 8.

The applicant, Michael Corral of Mesa, is seeking a special-use permit to build two tracks, one for children and one for larger motorcycles. The property is a mile east of State Route 79, between a gravel operation and the National Guard facilities. It will not be a public facility, will not be designed for public races and will have no spectator bleachers, according to the application to Pinal County.

County planning staff in the past have recommended in favor of the project. But last month, when the Pinal County Planning and Zoning Commission heard it for the third time, staff had no recommendation.
