Downtown demolition makes way for more usable space in Apache Junction

apache junction(News release) – Apache Junction, Arizona – On February 18 demolition of the properties located at 180 and 184 North Apache Trail began. Both properties were included in the Land Exchange Agreement that passed unanimously at the December 2 Apache Junction City Council meeting. The city received the parcels located on 2.42 acres of land in exchange for one-tenth of an acre on 2nd Avenue just east of Idaho.

The demolition of the abandoned apartment buildings is the first step in creating a downtown public space. “We are excited for the structures to come down” shared Principle Economic Development Specialist Janine Solley. “It will be a big day not only for the future of our downtown, but for the city as a whole. We continue to take steps to enhance our city and meet the needs and desires of our community”. While the exact plans for the land are still being developed, removal of the structures is an essential step in the process.
