MARICOPA — Officials say Maricopa’s private water supplier isn’t being cooperative when it comes to testing and maintaining hydrants in the city.

Since he took over as fire chief three years ago, Brady Leffler has sought regular access to the approximately 3,000 hydrants in the city. He wants to routinely maintain the hydrants, flush out any sediment and ensure that they remain in working order. Groups of cautious citizens initially raised concerns about the seemingly underserviced hydrants to various City Council members, which brought the problem to Leffler’s attention.
