Eloy fire district officials retiring

ELOY — Two longtime Eloy Fire District leaders — Fire Chief Coy Amerson and Division Chief Jonathan Lorenz — will retire this summer after a combined 74 years of service between the two.

Amerson is the third generation in his family to be part of the firefighting service, and has been with Eloy Fire District for 42 years. Long before Amerson was promoted to fire chief in December 2012, he started as a volunteer in 1974.

He became a full-time employee in 1988, and played a hand in starting the city’s ambulance service. He was in the district’s first Emergency Medical Technician class.

A short year later, Amerson became a paramedic with the ability to administer life-saving drugs, start IVs and intubate critically injured patients in the field.
