Eloy selects former Pinal sheriff Chris Vasquez as police chief

The Eloy City Council will have a contract to approve next Monday night for the newly selected police chief — former Pinal County Sheriff Chris Vasquez.

Vasquez comes to the department on the heels of former Eloy Police Chief William “Bill” Pitman’s retirement in early February after more than 15 years at the department’s helm. Lt. Michelle McKinley served as interim police chief while city staff searched for a replacement.

The selection process was done almost entirely by City Manager Harvey Krauss, who brought in professional panels and community leaders to be part of the process. They narrowed it down to four candidates who they interviewed, ultimately landing on Vasquez.
