Marana, Oro Valley discuss economic future in joint council session

When Oro Valley Mayor Satish Hiremath was first elected to office in 2010, he said one of his first phone calls was to his counterpart in the Town of Marana, Ed Honea. 

He made the call to introduce himself, and to forge a relationship of some kind with the man who’d sat at the top of Marana for nearly two decades by that time. (Honea recently rang in his 30th year in the mayor’s seat over several stretches.) When Honea picked up the phone, he said it was the first communication of that kind he’d ever received from an Oro Valley mayor.

It was the beginning of a strong professional friendship, a point both men made clear last week during a joint study session for the council and executive level town staff of both Oro Valley and Marana at the Hilton El Conquistador last Thursday, Jan. 11, and was the third such meeting between the two organizations since 2011.
