Maricopa Flood District Election October 4

[NEWS RELEASE] On Wednesday, October 4 Maricopa Flood Control District (MFCD) will elect a new member to its three-person board of directors.

This year’s election will be held at the clubhouse of The Villages Rancho El Dorado.

The poll will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those in line at 4:00 p.m. will be allowed to vote.

Voting officials will ask for identification and they will check property records, tax records and voter registration records before issuing a ballot.

Voters can also vote by mail. Those wishing to vote by mail should go to the district’s website, www.maricopafcd.com, click on the ELECTION tab and fill out the request for an early ballot. It should take less than a minute. Election officials will mail a package with a ballot and instructions. The ballot must then be returned in the pre-addressed, postage-paid envelope so it arrives to election officials before 4 p.m. on the day of the election. Electors can also choose to bring the ballot to the poll on October 4.

Maricopa Flood Control District board members serve four-year terms and are not compensated for their service. For more information about the district and for full information concerning the election, go to www.maricopafcd.com.

There are two candidates vying for the open position on the board. Here are statements they provided MFCD, concerning their reasons for running:

Scott Kelly
A native of Maricopa, I graduated from MHS in 1986. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Arizona and am the Senior Design Engineer at Electrical District #3 (ED-3).

My interest in the Maricopa Flood Control District stems from my concern for future development in the district, personally and professionally. My work at ED-3 is directly related to residential and commercial progress, giving me knowledge of on-going expansion. It is important to me that development continues with minimal negative impact on our community. I strongly feel my qualifications make me an ideal candidate.

Bob Marsh
I want to serve on the MFCD Board because I’m an experienced engineering problem-solver, and MFCD’s job is solving engineering-oriented problems.

I’m a 25-year Arizona resident and a graduate engineer with a background in solving problems for NASA, US Atomic Energy Commission, US Navy, FBI, GE, Honeywell, Microsoft, AT&T, American Airlines and other organizations.

After attending MFCD Board meetings this year, I have an understanding of the issues facing this Board. I can do some good work here, and I’d appreciate your vote.
