New contract to lower Maricopa’s energy bill

In a move made to save the city about $20,000 per year in energy costs, the Maricopa City Council unanimously approved an agreement between the Arizona Power Authority (APA) and the city of Maricopa for the purchase and sale of Hoover Dam power.

The APA, the agency that distributes Arizona’s share of the electricity produced by the Hoover Dam, is on the verge of finalizing 50-year contracts for that electricity to benefit farmland and cities across the state.

The power comes at a lower cost than other energy providers charge, making it a fruitful and highly sought-after resource.
