P&Z denies Casa Grande group home request; council can hear appeal

Heeding the concerns of neighbors, the city planning commission has denied an expansion for a children’s group home in Casa Grande.

The Casa Grande Planning and Zoning Commission on Thursday voted against a zone change on a single-family home in the Ironwood Commons subdivision. Homeowner Tiffany Battle, who operates the Safeway House Youth Facility, was seeking the change in an effort to expand the number of children she can house from six to nine. The decision can be appealed to the City Council.

Several neighbors in the Ironwood Commons subdivision spoke against the zone change, including Scott Haney, who said: “I believe what the HOA (homeowners association) is asking of this commission now is to deny her application to change the status of her home, not stop the home from operating.”
