FLORENCE – The Superstition Mountains located just east of Apache Junction has been a focal point for hikers and horseback riders for decades.  Volunteers from the Superstition Area Land Trust (SALT) have spent their time maintaining the Lost Goldmine Trail for all to use.

This past fall and winter, the Pinal County Open Space and Trails Department partnered with SALT to improve the west portion of the trail.  The improvements included construction of  new trail and mitigation of the old trail tread.

“This is a great example of a public/private partnership,” stated Pinal County Open Space and Trails Director Kent Taylor. “The volunteers provided 888 hours of labor and completed the entire 2-plus mile realignment project in one trail build season.”

As a thank you, the volunteers were provided with new trail building tools and work gloves for next season.
