Pinal JPs change how presiding judge will be elected

The justice courts in Pinal County have set a policy for how it will elect its presiding judge in the future.

A policy order went into effect last week, mandating that a presiding judge shall be elected every two years by a majority of the county’s justices of the peace.

Presiding Judge Shaun Babeu, who oversees the Apache Junction justice court, said there was no formalized policy in place for how justices of the peace shall pick who among them should preside over the courts.
