Pinal workshops aim to be a filmmakers training ground

Aspiring filmmakers filed into a lecture hall on Central Arizona College’s Signal Peak campus Wednesday morning as the first of a series of filmmaking workshops got underway.

Hosted by the Copa Shorts Film Fest in partnership with CAC, the workshops aim to be a training ground for wannabe filmmakers, giving them tips and techniques needed to complete a film or screenplay sophisticated enough to compete in the film festival.

“We want to see more local people enter films and screenplays in the Copa Shorts Film Fest and we want to be a resource for them to finish projects,” said Shelley Gillespie, who along with her husband, Roger Gillespie, founded the film festival.
