SRP still pursuing power line route on Gila River Reservation

Residents were able to get a first-hand look at plans for a proposed East Valley power line.

SRP officials spent much of last year and early 2015 negotiating with thousands of allottees who hold tribal land on the Gila River Reservation to lease property for the line. After securing their agreement, hearings were held in April before the Arizona Power Plant and Transmission Line Siting Committee, which recommended the Gila River route to the Arizona Corporation Commission over several alternatives. However, the siting committee and state commission only have jurisdiction over those portions that are on non-reservation lands.

The Gila River Indian Community Council voted to reject the proposal in early May, before the Corporation Commission could hear the plan.
