It was his second chance to deliver the State of the City Address, but Mayor Jon Thompson wanted to rectify one oversight he said he made in his first address last year.

Before a packed house at the Coolidge/Florence Elks Club on Wednesday, Thompson spoke to the group of Coolidge Chamber of Commerce members, city officials and other attendees about the successes and challenges that the city has faced and will face in the coming months.

“Last year was obviously my first State of the City Address if you will,” Thompson said. “And I didn’t really know much about State of the City Addresses and what I thought we needed in them. This year is a little different. Last year I was remiss in not recognizing the staff. Because I can tell you one of the things I’ve learned over the last year is the mayor is only as good as the people he has working for him.”

Thompson asked the staff to stand and take a bow and give them the chance to be publicly commended for their work.
