Think tank files suit challenging new Pinal road tax

A conservative think tank has taken up the cause of some Pinal County voters and filed a lawsuit challenging the county’s recently approved road tax.

On Thursday, the Goldwater Institute filed a suit challenging the legality of the passage of the Regional Transportation Authority’s tax under Proposition 417, which supporters said would infuse Pinal County with more that $620 million for roads over the next 20 years. Voters narrowly passed the plan in November.

Jason Rose, manager with the New Roads and Freeways Before It’s Too Late: Yes on 416 and 417 campaign, told PinalCentral: “I think it’s very sad that anyone, let alone a Phoenix special interest group, would want to overturn the will of Pinal County voters and stifle all of the economic progress new roads and freeways already are and will mean for everyone.”
