Town ready to issue permit to repair historic adobe wall

Plaster that fell off an adobe wall after the building next door burned down in 2014 will finally be replaced, with the town and the building owners agreeing at last on a list of other repairs.

A majority of Florence’s Historic District Advisory Commission (HDAC) approved a design review application on Oct. 25, which allows the town to issue a building permit. The historic Rapp Saloon at 363 N. Main St. will have a permit for structural remediation only. The owners will not be charged a permit fee for replacing the wall’s lime plaster finish, which can be done without a building permit, Development Services Director Christopher Salas said.

The Rapp Saloon’s north wall has structural issues including missing bricks, a depressed area, a 6-by-6-inch hole and an undersized window lintel, which the owners’ own structural engineer noted, Salas said after last week’s HDAC meeting.
