Water For Living Project Provided over 52,000 Bottles of Water

The community’s generosity ensured the city of Apache Junction’s first Water for Living Project was successful

The numbers are in and Apache Junction’s first Water for Living project was a success. Early estimates of the number of water bottles anticipated were accurate; approximately 1,480 cases resulting in an estimated 52,480 bottles of water were contributed during the month long effort. Citizens, businesses and organizations stepped up to ensure the community need was met.

“Nothing happens without a team” commented Spencer Paden, Apache Junction Public Library Director. And the project epitomized what a team can accomplish when working together. The Apache Junction Walmart secured 40,000 bottles, the Superstition Fire & Medical District donated 180 cases (approximately 4,320 bottles) in partnership with Firehouse Subs and the Apache Junction Mounted Rangers donated 80 cases (approximately 1,920 bottles). Over 6,000 additional bottles were donated by community members and organizations. Additional partners included the Apache Junction Water District, Friends of Apache Junction and the Apache Junction Chamber of Commerce.

Coordinating the project and transporting over 52,000 bottles of water also required a team effort. The Apache Junction Public Library and the Apache Junction Municipal Court were instrumental in the success of the project. Spencer Paden, Library Director and TJ Watkins, Library Security Officer were especially helpful with coordination. Rick Sinsabaugh and Jim Christy with the Court Compliance division of the Municipal Court were an integral component in ensuring donated water was successfully delivered to the Apache Junction Food Bank, Salvation Army and Genesis Project.

“They are stocked and will make it through the hottest months, and that’s what this is all about” Court Compliance Officer Rick Sinsabaugh stated.

The concept for the project originated when City of Apache Junction’s Vice Mayor Robin Barker provided her bottle of water to a woman in need. “I’m delighted with the outcome. Thank you to everyone who donated and worked hard on this effort” shared Vice Mayor Barker. “Water is a lifeline, everyone deserves access to water”.
