Windmill expansion plans go before council for 1st readings

Winery plans to add an inn, cottages, a 4th wedding venue and a microbrewery

windmill wineryThe Windmill Winery’s plans to expand across the street with lodging and another major wedding venue came before the Town Council Aug. 15 as the council heard the first readings of three separate measures related to zoning and land use on the 40-acre parcel currently used for farming.

The Windmill, a popular picturesque wedding destination for the last five years, announced plans in May to partner with GreenTree Inns Hotel Management Group Inc., the new owner of the former Holiday Inn, to develop cottages, a fourth wedding venue and microbrewery on what is now vacant farm land on the south side of Butte Avenue.

Jeff Denzak, an architect with Swaback Partners, told the council the inn will not be “a typical Holiday Inn” but a “boutique inn.” The cottages will come in a variety of plans including singles, duplexes and fourplexes, Denzak said.
