Zone change near Casa Grande subdivision prompts outcry

The zone change is being sought on vacant land located at Val Vista Boulevard and Scott Road.

Fears of lowered property values and increased crime brought out dozens of concerned people to a Casa Grande Planning and Zoning Commission meeting Thursday night.

What was a seemingly innocuous zoning change for a vacant lot from commercial to multifamily residential prompted outcry from residents of the nearby Avalon subdivision. Residents spoke of potential lowered property values and increased crime from what they believed would be an apartment complex.

The vacant land, located at Val Vista Boulevard and Scott Road, is owned by Gino Tarantini of Scottsdale. While the zoning change from commercial to multifamily residential could someday allow for any number of multifamily dwellings, Tarantini has no plans to immediately build any projects.
