1891 Courthouse Renovation Still Winning Impressive Awards
FLORENCE – Even after being officially open for more than a year, the renovation project of the 1891 Pinal County Courthouse, keeps on winning awards statewide and nationwide.
The Board of Supervisors was informed that the Courthouse Renovation Project has been selected as one of the 2014 Public Works Projects of the Year by the American Public Works Association.
“This is a very prestigious award,” exclaimed Chairman Anthony Smith. “Everyone who comes through the courthouse doors is just in awe of the tremendous amount of work done to renovate this grand structure. It is truly a signature piece for the county and the state of Arizona.”
The honor will be bestowed upon the county at the 2014 International Public Works Congress and Exposition in Toronto, Ontario. Pinal County Public Works will be named as the primary agency with Concord General Contracting, Incorporated and Swan Architects, Incorporated also winning awards for the project.
“Archie Carreon will be representing the county at this ceremony,” said County Manager Greg Stanley. “Archie deserves the recognition; he is a top-notch construction project manager and we are fortunate to have his services.”
The courthouse is home to the offices for the supervisors, as well as the county manager, clerk of the board, internal audit, economic development, open space and trails, citizen contact center and communications. There are also community meeting rooms, the supervisors hearing room and a ceremonial courtroom for public use.
The Courthouse Renovation Project began in December 2011 as former County Manager Fritz Behring developed a plan to use the building to house the new five-member Board of Supervisors. One-time federal stimulus funds, along with county monies were used in the $7 million restoration project.
