The City Council has approved rezoning three parcels of land on the west side of town to invite new industrial development.

A total of 405 acres located west of Thornton Road will be reclassified as either General Industrial or Community Services zones. Two of the land parcels were previously zoned as planned area developments and a third had Urban Ranch zoning.

Council members Mary Kortsen and Dick Powell expressed support at Monday’s meeting for each of the zone changes, both claiming it would make the city more attractive to new manufacturing businesses.

One of the parcels, about 80 acres in size, is located on the southwest corner of Thornton and Peters roads, which neighbors the Wal-Mart Distribution Center.
