Apache Junction Police Department Renovation Ribbon Cutting

Apache Junction Police DepartmentCompleted renovations at the Apache Junction Police Department (AJPD) were celebrated with a ribbon cutting on August 12. CORE Construction, CookDZ and Dick & Fritsche Design Group were key partners in the project. “The improvements were a combination of officer desires and recommendations from the architects” explained Chief Thomas E. Kelly. “We appreciate the assistance and expertise of everyone who assisted.” Initially conceptualized in 2012, remodel construction began in February of 2014.

While the renovation did not expand square footage, the use of space dramatically changed. Modifications were made to the technology and configuration of the briefing room, conference room, evidence lockers and evidence processing area. The remodel also resulted in additional officer and supervisor workstations, addition of a prisoner arraignment area which includes a secure area for victims and energy efficient lighting. “The redesign and reconfiguration resulted in much more efficient use of the facility” shared Assistant City Manager Bryant Powell. “Additionally, the atmosphere you work in can provide a sense of pride and in turn increased productivity; CORE Construction helped us achieve that with City Hall, Library, Multi-Generational Center and now the Police Department.”

Funding for the $800,000 renovation came from four sources, RICO/Asset forfeiture, General Fund Facility Budget, Police Department development fees and Court revenues. The original building was constructed in 1995.

“This is big for the city, our citizens and members of the police department” commented Mayor Insalaco.
