Casa Grande council nixes group home idea

A zone change denied by the City Council Monday would have permitted a group home for children in a Casa Grande subdivision.

Instead, council members said the homeowner knew the zoning regulations when she purchased the home and needed to abide by the existing rules.

Tiffany Battle’s application for a zone change for her home in Ironwood Commons was rejected; the zone change would have permitted her to apply for a conditional use permit to create a group home for children who are not in their parents’ custody. Battle currently operates a residential facility for six children out of her home; the change would have permitted up to nine children to be housed.
