Casa Grande’s Historic Preservation Ordinance to go back to council

Proposed changes to the city historic code seemed to pass muster with affected homeowners at a meeting last week.

Changes to the Historic Preservation Ordinance that governs Casa Grande’s historic buildings, including the homes in the Evergreen Historic District, were presented to about a dozen residents at a meeting last week. Proposed changes include allowing homeowners an opportunity to “opt-out” of the historic district, effectively letting those properties be “non-contributing” to the historic feel of the neighborhood.

Planning and Development Director Paul Tice said that while city staff were proponents of the historic district, they also recognized the concerns of the homeowners who wanted to have more control over their properties.
