CD1CD1 candidate takes issue with APS rate hike

ELOY — What’s the deal with the Arizona Public Service Co. rate hike?

That was the aptly named discussion Thursday at the Eloy Chamber of Commerce luncheon where representatives from the utility company gave the ins and outs of the proposed hike.

In addition to an overall rate increase of 8 percent for residential customers and some changes in solar-power buy-backs, the utility is also proposing expansion of what’s called demand rates. 

“Our dilemma has been this model, where we’ve been charging based on energy usage, doesn’t really match with our fixed cost component, and demand rates attempt to address that,” said Zac Fryer, director of materials for APS, who gave the presentation.
