One day after voters overwhelmingly approved a $44 million bond issue for the Casa Grande Elementary School District, a contract was approved by the district to begin designing new school facilities.

The contract focuses on drafting designs for a new building that will be erected between Saguaro Elementary and Casa Grande Middle School. The intention is to have the schools share this replacement facility while still operating as two separate schools.

SPS Plus Architects, based in Scottsdale, was awarded the design contract that pays the company 5.75 percent of the total cost of construction. When a committee of community members recommended the project earlier this year, it was estimated to cost $17 million to build the new facility.
