City decides how to spend housing rehabilitation money

The City of Coolidge held a public hearing last Monday on a pair of projects it was considering for federal CDBG funds it is receiving this fiscal year through the Arizona Department of Housing Regional Account.

Grants Director and Special Projects head Jill Dusenberry gave the City Council a brief update on the status.

“CDBG funds need to be used in the community to assist individuals or the community as a whole that’s low income,” Dusenberry said.

For the Regional Account, with $139,242 available, of all the projects considered, only one would qualify for CDBG funding at this time: housing rehabilitation.

For the State Special Project Account, with $300,000 available, again, a housing rehab project was the only proposal found to qualify under the competitive process. It’s the only project that is currently eligible to submit an application for since all environmental clearance for a project must be obtained before the application deadline.
