Each spring, students in 3rd through 12th grades take the AzMERIT test in English Language Arts and Mathematics.

Students are assessed on their proficiency with state standards in both content areas and results are shared with schools and the community in the fall. Combs Traditional Academy, a “back-to-basics” school of choice in the J.O. Combs Unified School District in San Tan Valley, once again earned high marks in student proficiency on the assessment.

Overall, Combs Traditional Academy was the highest performing school in Pinal County, outperforming all other District and Charter Schools. Seventy-one percent of the 3rd-6th graders at Combs Traditional Academy passed English Language Arts (ELA) and 70% passed Mathematics, compared to the county average of 28% passing ELA and 29% passing Mathematics. Additionally, the 4th grade cohort from Combs Traditional Academy had 87% of students pass the English Language Arts test, which placed them as the 14th highest rated cohort in the state of Arizona.
