Coolidge council puts the brakes on solar farm annexation

The city of Coolidge’s plans to bring a 257-acre solar farm into the city boundaries were short lived.

During a special meeting Monday, the City Council, in an effort to avoid significant future costs, voted to rescind the ordinance annexing half of the Pinal Central Energy plant as well as some surrounding property.

The annexation, which was approved on Sept. 25, aimed to bring in the proposed solar farm owned by Florida-based NextEra Energy in an effort to give the city and nearby residents a bigger say in the project’s site plan.
