Coolidge library gets expansion green light

Work will add 1,000 square feet to building

coolidge libraryThe Coolidge Public Library is about to get bigger after the City Council approved a contract with Stratton Builders for a 1,000-square-foot expansion project.

Joyce Baker, library director, explained a complicated process that has been underway.

“We’ve been working for the last 18 months with Engberg Anderson Architects,” Baker said.

She told the council the city had advertised and on April 29, five contractors submitted bids. Stratton Builders came in at $325,000. Design plans were modified by the architects and the project went back to bid. Stratton Builders was the only contractor to resubmit. The new bid of $313,000 still came in slightly higher than the available money.
