Shope, who served over the Florence Justice Court, Precinct 1, since January 2015 after being elected the previous November, recently announced that he would resign from his justice job to return to his family grocery business, Shope’s IGA in Coolidge.

His resignation is effective Jan. 3.

County spokesman Joe Pyritz confirmed at that time that the Board of Supervisors would hold an executive session to determine the appropriate course of action in finding a replacement for Shope, who made the decision to drop out two years into his four-year term.
