County works on flooding problem in Arizona City

Pinal County is testing sediment-control methods in Arizona City to stop the spread of debris during flooding caused by heavy rainstorms.

Gilbert Tarango, a foreman for Pinal County’s Public Works Department, said the department has tried several different methods to see which one would best help with the problem. Silk fences have turned out to be the most effective, though they are not ideal from an aesthetic point of view. The plan now is to expand the program, digging up more ditches around Arizona City to stop the spread of debris.

Residents are concerned about the level of debris, dirt and mud being left on people’s property following a storm. At last week’s forum held by county Supervisor Anthony Smith, R-Maricopa, who represents Arizona City, residents said that some of the mess was even getting into their homes, and rocks were being swept away.
