Developer-donated land to build a new FUSD school

Consolidation brings surprise

florence-landFlorence Unified School District officials recently discovered an unexpected bonus in the district’s partial consolidation with the Coolidge district – a 22-acre developer-donated school site.

FUSD has no immediate plans for the land, at the southwest corner of North Kelly Drive and East Empire Boulevard adjacent to the Maricopa County line.

The original parcel had some odd corners that were inefficient for developing a school campus, FUSD Business Manager Beverly Myers told the school board. FUSD proposed a land swap with Fulton Homes to “square up” the property for a more usable and efficient school site, and the school board approved the plan at its Sept. 13 meeting.
